✨ My Breastfeeding Story: From Peru to IBCLC ✨

I grew up in Peru, surrounded by strong women — aunties, cousins, neighbors — all breastfeeding like it was the most natural thing in the world. No books, no classes, no panic… just community.
If a mom needed help, another woman simply stepped in.
It was normal. It was natural. It was life.

Back then, I never questioned how breastfeeding worked. You just… did it.
Or as we used to say: “Just plug the baby in and figure it out.”
(Yes, I know — it sounds brutal, but it was our reality… because support was always around.)

When I arrived in Canada, everything changed.
Suddenly, breastfeeding wasn’t the default — bottle‑feeding was. Companies like Nestlé knew exactly how to target tired, overwhelmed mothers. And as generations passed, breastfeeding knowledge slowly disappeared.

So when I signed up for my first 20‑hour breastfeeding course, I honestly thought:
“What more is there to know?”
BIG surprise.
BIG reality check.
BIG humble slap 🤣

I was blown away by the science, the anatomy, the complexity.
All the little things I’d seen growing up suddenly made sense.
And just like that… I was hooked.
I found my calling — my passion — my purpose.

By 2010, I began my journey toward becoming an IBCLC.

✨ Why IBCLCs Matter So Much

Formula companies are billion‑dollar industries.
And they know what they’re doing.

They don’t talk about:
• the 4‑fold increase in SIDS with artificial feeding
• the higher risks of obesity and autoimmune diseases
• the lower IQ outcomes
• the financial burden on families
• the long‑term health costs

But IBCLCs do.

We show up to empower families with real knowledge — because knowledge is power.
We are here to break harmful patterns, to bring back the wisdom of generations, and to help parents make informed choices.

✨ My Why

As a nurse, midwife, and IBCLC, I’ve walked into homes during the hardest moments — pain, confusion, tears, fear.
I’ve seen parents crumble… and then rise again.
I’ve watched bodies relax, shoulders drop, and confidence return the minute things start making sense.

Every call I receive is a privilege.
Every baby I hold is a blessing.
Every family that trusts me humbles me to my core.

✨ August: Breastfeeding Month

This month, we celebrate all IBCLCs — in Canada and around the world — who are working every day to support families, one feed at a time.

To my fellow IBCLCs:
I see you.
I honor you.
I celebrate you. 💛

And to the families I’ve supported — thank you for letting me be part of your journey.

Happy Breastfeeding Month!
We are here to change the world… one mother, one partner, one baby at a time. 🤍
