  • Breastfeeding with supplementation is an option when there is a justifiable clinical cause such as loss of 10% of birth weight, hypoglycemia, prematurity … or by maternal decision after receiving the pertinent information related to supplementation by healthcare personnel .
  • It consists of offering the breast first and continue to feed with the SNS tube the amount of which will be indicated by the treating healthcare professionals.The supplementation can be from breast milk that the mother will have previously expressed, or with artificial milk.
  • If supplementation is made with breast milk, it is considered exclusive breastfeeding. If artificial milk is used for supplementation, it is considered as mixed feeding.
